Steven Spielberg and Sydney Lumet had relative duds, but would strike big in 1975 with Dog Day Afternoon and Jaws, respectively. Terrence Malick had just broken onto the scene with Badlands.<BR/>God, the '70's were great.<BR/>Sadly, the heyday of American cinema took a nosedive in 1977 when tastes changed from the social realism of the '70s for the hammy '80s: Rocky beat out Network, All the President's Men, and Taxi Driver for the Best Picture Oscar. <BR/><BR/>But definitely see 'The Conversation.'
